Globe of Land and Water

A sandpaper globe on a wooden stand. Land is represented by rough sand and water by smooth blue. The wooden base holds the globe at the same angle as the Earth's axis in relation to the Sun.

This product is assembled from two parts. The globe spins freely on its base once the pole is inserted into the opening at the bottom of the globe.

The purpose of this material is to introduce the child to the concept of the Earth as a sphere made up of land and water.

The child explores the globe tactilely by feeling the rough, elevated sand representing land and contrasting it with the smooth parts representing water.

Features

• Globe diameter: about 16 cm (6 1/3 in).
